Mmm.... Mmm.... Good!

It's Sunday afternoon and after church we went to Smash Burger! The best burger place ever! I usually have just a plain burger and fries but i really love the Smash Fries and the sweet potato fries! It's so good! We sat outside, in the shade, and had a blast!

I Luv Techy Stuff!

Why you ask? The answer is simple! I am writing this from my Wii Game System! Sitting on the couch, eating a snack, and using my wii remote controller to write a short blog using a channel i downloaded from the wii shopping channel. LOL- this is definitely the "Modern" side of the (Modern) Old Fashioned Girl!

Oh Where does the time go?

Where did all the time go? Summer is coming to a stop, and just around the corner we find school and work... And lots less vacation time! Towards the beginning of the summer i found myself counting down every day towards school, and being to afraid to go out because i didn't want to miss a minute of my summer. I just wanted to stay home and enjoy it. Then after i went out on a couple of small trips, vacations, and that sort of thing i suddenly found myself wishing i hadn't spent so much time at home! After i had so much fun i faced the reality of the situation (The fact i would have to return to school!!! LOL) i realized that time flies TOO fast. Seriously, where does time go? I need directions! My GPS can't find the location of time! Haha

Summer Boredom Busters

Sometimes, Summer isn't always the best of times. It gets hot, and you don't feel like doing much. Well, maybe it's just a  matter of finding the perfect to spend your time! Who doesn't love crafts? I recently went shopping and picked up a few things that help me have a fun summer.

1. Modeling Clay- Technically, it's nothing fancy, just clay! It's fun to try and shape things into differant animals and stuff. However, usually my creations look more like round blobs!!! But it's fun to try!

2. Sewing Basket- Not really much, some needles, thread, scissors and fabric. I have had a lot of fun sprucing up an old pair of shoes by sewing on sequins. So now, instead of being my Mom's old shoes that don't fit her anymore, their my new shoes! Completely changed and personalized just for me! Sewing is one my favorite ways to spend my time!

3. Visors/Hats- Here's a great summer craft! Buy a new solid colored hat or visor, or use an old one of your own and make a personalized summer visor. You can buy foam stickers such as flowers, palm trees or seashells and stick or hot glue them on for a longer lasting stick! You can also buy puff paint and write fun words with the paint or you can draw decals of your own!

4. Aprons/ T-Shirts- One of my favorites! You can buy iron-on decals at the store or make your own if you have a computer and printer! Just go to a craft storeand buy iron-on transfer paper. You can print out pictures from your computer and by following the instructions can easily personalize your own shirt. You can also personalize an apron! For instance, if somebody's birthday is coming uo and they like to cook you can personalize an apron for them with decals that match your personality and maybe even use some puff paint or fabric paint to write their name on them!

5. Home made popsicles- I learned this trick a long time a go. You buy differant flavors of fruit juice for a multi flavored popsicle or just use one! Pour a little bit into cupcake pans and stick in a stick. Hold in place by spreading some tin foil over the top of each "Popsicle" then let it freeze. Keep adding layer by layer then pull them out once completely frozen. Enjoy! *NOTE: You may need to let them thaw a little bit before taking them out of the pan*

I hope you enjoyed these fun activities for summer!

Summer! Summer! SUMMER! Not...

Yeah, remember all those times I spent wishing for summer to come? Well, now i almost wish I hadn't! If you can picture my house with all the windows open and a fan in every corner along with a dozen glasses of iced water and two-dozen fresh bottles of water you probaly know what i mean! It's terrible! Well, I guess it's not terrible being vacation and all but it sure is terribly hot! That's is one thing you can count on if it's summer, unless of course you live in Antarctica or some other cool climate! Here's where I am right now:

Here's where I want to be:

Memorial Day Weekend: Vacation or Remembrance

Sometimes, it kills me when I hear people talk about the vacations they are going on every year around this time, Memorial Day. For some it's a three day weekend, no school! For others its a time to go on big camping trips, and then for some, its a day to have big parties with barbeques steaks. But for the more conservative crazy people like me it's a memorial day. Look it up in the thesaurus and you will find words such as ceremony, remembrance, reminder, or token. Look "memorial" up in the dictionary and it will say: Something designed to preserve the memory of a person, event, etc.

Just today I was in school with my classmates and I heard them all shout out "Yeah! Three day weekend! Woo hoo!" or " Yeah, I'm so excited. I'm going camping." For me, me and my family all go to a Memorial Day service designed to do exactly what its supposed to, preserve the memory of a person, event, etc. We sing songs, we listen to speeches, poems, readings, etc. We stand in honor of our troops, and we raise our righthands over our hearts during the national anthem. We honor the soldiers fighting today, and we our proud of our flag, our freedoms, and our founding fathers.

In my opinion, people commercialize is it too much. How often do you hear, "Come on in for our Memorial Day Weekend Sale! Get shirts, pants, and those cute skirts you've been wanting at a discounted price! " All the time right?  Let me ask you another question, how often do you hear, "Raise your flags in honor of the soldiers who have died for you. Remember the founding Fathers and the soldiers that fought for your freedom. Remember Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Patrick Henry who wanted to make you and your country a free nation."

Summer! Summer! SUMMER!

Oh! When will summer get here? It seems like forever! Oh the plans I am making! The plans I haven't made even! For me, I get out of school on June 3rd! That's when it begins for me! The problem is it just takes forever! Total I have about 11 full days before I am free! And it's just so hard! I mean focusing on homework, getting good grades, and staying focused in my classes, and not being lazy and slacking off is hard! If you have tips and tricks, PLEASE share them! Some kids in my class are even having countdowns toawards it! In the words of Alvin and the Chipmunks:

"We can hardly stand the wait! Please Christmas [or summer!] don't be late!"

"Daze" Gone By

One of my favorite things is having something fun to do, to entertain myself with. Like a big big BIG project that takes me all day and night that I just can't wait to finish. Or when something absolutely WONDERFUL happens and I just can't stop thinking about it so it makes me happy all day long. But then there are the days when you get all excited and you have all these plans and POOF! They dissapear the moment you sit on the couch and turn on the TV. By the time you realize how late it's gotten, you have done nothing but sit all day and you realize, man I wish I could get that 3 hours of my life back. But, you can't. That's what happened to me today. I can't stand those days when they happen, but then again we hardly ever stop them from coming either. But if we try hard enough we can turn those days around into something fun. But the only problem is, we won't ever geet those hours back.

FINISHED!

Ah... I finally finished. There is nothing better than the satisfaction of finishing a big project. I myself just finished the costume dress I was sewing. I have had a whole string of reliving "little victories". First, I finished the dress, then after GREAT struggle I finished washing my chihuahua, Buddy. To top it off, my plants are sprouting! However, the only thing that isn't good is one of the plants I planted, is not showing any sign of life. Although, I still think, there is no greater feeling than finishing a big project.

Easter is Coming!

Okay, so this post is all about Easter-Planning! I just finished making a short, short, like 5 minute movie about Easter. I did all the editing and burned it on to CDs and stuff. It was super fun. Some of my favorite activities for any holiday is decorating (ofcourse), cooking, and as always, writing a skit or play that co-insides with the holiday. This year the movie I made will not be the only thing, but I have written a skit to be performed on Easter Day in front of all my friends and family. As you can see, none of my productions are very big or succesful, but I enjoy making others feel happy.

When I was little and in First Grade I would often sit with my mom while she taught her Kindergarten class. One thing they did was make "Green Eggs and Ham" to go along with the Dr. Suess book. What they did was they put green food dye on some scrambled eggs, and mixed in some ham with the eggs. It turned out good, well, since I was little i don't remember much, so I assume it was good! Anyways, I thought that since most of the time on Easter we dye Easter eggs right? Well, I thought wouldn't it be cute if for a nice Easter Breakfast you made colored scrambled "Easter Eggs"?

As for Easter Crafts, you could do basket weaving.  But if you are looking for something slightly less difficult and something you can do with your kids, I would sometimes make paper easter eggs and decorate them with differant colors of construction paper or stickers and glitter when I was little. It might not be extroardinarily fun but... Another thing, I once sewed two aprons and bakers hats for a cousin and myself. On the hat, I put bunny ears, and on above the "skirt" part, I put a rabbit's head and where the ears were it was the straps. It's hard to explain. Here is a small sketch of it:
I'm afraid I am not very good at sketching but you get the idea.

Some Easter Movies? Hmm... That's a tough one. Well for kids I would say "Springtime with Roo", "Peter Cottontail", or "Peter Cottontail the Movie" which is the sequel to Peter Cottontail. Another good movie for kids is "The Miracle Maker The Story of Jesus." That one is either the miracle maker or the miracle worker, I am not quite sure. Those are all great for kids. Especially the younger children. For mature kids and adults I recomend "Ben-Hur" or "Jesus of Nazareth."

Those are all my Easter-y ideas for now. See you soon! Bye!

Needles, Threads, and Fabrics

Ahh... Some of my three favorite things! Right now I have mostly begun sewing a dress. Hopefully most of you know that two of my favorite things just happen to be sewing and theatre(OK, My favorite things). Actually, lately I have been combining my two favorite things. If you don't know I love to write small plays/skits and get a cast & crew together and put them on. Well, one of my favorite parts about it is costumes! Not just the fancy clothes but of course, the accessories, the hair, and the make-up! Well, the clothes are a big part of that and it is not always easy to find costumes for a nice price! So often, i sew them myself. Most of the time I just sew them for fun, then a week later, they come in handy!

Lately I have been sewing a renaissance themed dress! It mostly consists of purple crushed velvet, silver silk, and some jeweled lavender lace. I might post a picture of it on my blog in the "My Pics and Videos" tab when I am finished! What's that? I think I hear the sewing machine calling my name! Wait I'm coming little sewing machine! WAIT!!!!

Working in the Garden!

The garden can be fun! I myself enjoy a nice afternoon sitting and working in the garden. I actually just helped plant some Zinnia's at my Grandma's house! I asked her if there was anymore work I could do! I was obviously thrilled to be in a garden and to be working under the sun in a pair of overalls!  She told me I could weed a certain area, but be careful for flowers!

Anyways I set to work!I was almost half-way done when all of a sudden I sat up and began to brush of my pants when my fingers ran over something creepy and crawly and squishy! It was a piece of a worm! Apparently either my hand shovel had stabbed it and flung it accross or I sat on it and it got squashed! I quickly ran into the house and saw my Aunt talking to my Grandma! I said something kind of odd when I walked into the house! I said, "Grandma! Are there any worms on the back of my pants?" I was totally creeped out!

Just when I thought my worries were over as I was talking to my Aunt and Grandma I screamed and started waving my arm about and accidentally flung my bracelet accross the floor! Why, you may ask? Because there was a pincher bug crawling up my arm! Ahhh!!!! I finally thought it was over until my imagination ran off with me about two seconds later and asked, "Is there anything I can change into?" I was positive that there were still bugs lurking about waiting to be discovered! I remembered that I was staying the night with my cousin and calmly, but briskly, walked over to the guest room to retrieve my suitcase! Only to find out that my relatives were talking in there and I didn't want to disturb them! I looked about on the couch to find an old dress a few sizes too big that I had bought from a garage sale to use in a craft I was going to do! I eventually was going to cut it up and sew something with it since I liked the material. However I quickly changed into the dress and sat down.(Calm once again) After about 5 minutes I decided to post it on my blog! Whew! What an evening!

I Wish!

Ahh.... Wake up in your fuzzy pajamas, warm and toasty! Make a cup of hot chocolate, sit down in your favorite, cushioned chair with a nice cozy afghan to keep you warm, and a good book!  Then after a few hours grab your to go cup of hot cocoa and walk the dog! Yep! That's a perfect morning in my opinion! But that's never what happens to any of us right? I wish!

Unless it's a special event like our birthday a or another special holiday we are pretty much out of luck huh?  Too bad, because I am sure we all would love a nice morning sitting out on the front porch watching the sun rise with our toasty cup of hot chocolate and our fuzzy slippers on and then- It's all just a dream....

Sometimes we do love to have a busy norning though don't we? I mean, it can be fun to sit around with the family and watch a home movie or something right? Right? Guys? Am I all alone here? Hello?

(Distant sound of crickets chirping)

Guys? I'm still  here! Hello? Anybody? Nobody? Guys? Awww...... Nuts! I must have lost them at family... Better luck next time!

There you have it! A morning's events!

Blogs vs. Diaries- An Epic Battle!

The Biggest Differance- That's what i was thinking last night while I was writing in my journal/diary about my day. The biggest differance between a Blog and a Diary... Well, there is one... Blogs can be viewed by everyone but Diaries are more private. A Blog is like a Diary in some ways. You can record things about your day and have a referance of everything you do throughout the years but it can be by everyone! Diaries are almost the same thing but... Differant. You still have records and memories but they are yours. Not everybody's memiors. For instance, can you post comments in a journal? I don't think so! I must say though the first time I ever started seriously writing in a journal was on December 31, 2010. I remember I couldn't stop writing! Some people might say it's a gift. I don't quite think so. After all, who would be interested in our insain thoughts that we ramble on about in our journals? Well, for one thing I guess we would since we take all the time to write them down. It is very interesting truly, the concept of a journal! For instance, read "The Diary of Anne Frank". Her amazing thoughts are far beyond the adolescent ramblings of most of my many entries.

Blogs can also be similar as well, because you can post pictures on blogs and paste them into your journals! You can write about your day on both. But the similarities in my opinion are few! What do you think?

Well...

Well, I'm not exactly... Well, How do i put it? I guess none of us are normal since everybody is differant so that's not a good word to use... Let me put it this way, we are all unique in our own special way! I'll just start of this blog like that! My friend's would say I am crazy, my mom would say that I am an Angel, and my Dad would say that I am a Princess. My dog would say I am affectionate and my pet frog would say I need to feed him more crickets.

The reason I call my blog "A (Modern) Old-Fashioned Girl" is because a lot of times I know a little too much about computers, or politics, or things like that an average person would know! Like for instance, I watch all the behind the scenes videos on greenscreens, special effects, audio commentaries, etc. on all my fav movies! Where as other times I like to climb up a tree and sit and look at nature, or sew and clean and cook! Well, not so much the cleaning part but you get the idea!
